Garnet – the name of the mineral is derived from the Latin word “granum”, meaning grain. One of the most popular gemstones since antiquity. Garnet comes in many varieties, e.g. red Pirop comes from the Czech Republic, yellow-green Grossular comes from South Africa, while reddish-brown, Almandine (one of the most popular) is found in Sri Lanka and Africa.
